Kewpie Doll Images

The actual Kewpie dolls were not the first mass merchandised items with that image. Rose O'Neill designed two sided paper dolls with Kewpie images that sold first. Kewpie adorned lots of paper items before becoming a Kewpie that could be held. There are Kewpie doll patterns, to make the dolls, or embroider their likenesses. There were Kewpie adventures, in prose and in verse. Kewpie doll images are easily discovered in a quick internet search. Kewpie appeared on felt pictures given as tobacco premiums. The first cloth Kewpie doll was made in 1925. Kewpie pictures were often featured in advertising. Pictures of Kewpie quilts and Kewpie lamps and other collectible little Kewpies can be found online for the interested collector. Kewpie was a popular decorating theme in the early 1900's. Steinbeck mentions a Kewpie Doll Lamp in his novel Of Mice and Men.
